AstoSoup Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 Hello all. New to SMD forums, not new to car audio lol. I have a PowerBass 3XL 152D (1000w RMS), on a Hifonics BRZ1700.1D @ 1ohm. At full tilt, the sub seems like it could move a lot more, yet the amp CLAIMS 1700w RMS. I have a Kinetik 850A cell, Big 3, 1/0ga., etc. so even though my voltage meter took a crap before this install, I am guessing my voltage is up there pretty good. Does anyone have any experience with the Brutus series amplifiers or know what they dyno at? No one around here has an amp dyno and I surely can't afford one right now so I am wondering if the amp is way over rated, or the sub is way under rated? It is like the sub is just starting to peak on the "1700w RMS" and is not getting the power needed to push it to where it want's to be. I know this amp isn't a powerhouse and the efficiency sucks but how close does everyone think it's getting to 1700w? Help is greatly appreciated here, thanks! TRTC360 Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 after rise and voltage drop you'll be lucky to see over 900 out of it I'd say. csermonet47 Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 the hifonics BE1700 dyno'd at 1200rms for certified 1% distortion, uncertified clipping at 1400rms, and did 1800rms on dynamic burst. that was SMD's test at a constant 14.5v. I would expect the brz to do similar. so if you have absolutely ZERO voltage drop, and your electrical is running over 14v, you MIGHT see 1700 on music. in reality, you're probably somewhere closer to 1000 like stated above.
AstoSoup Posted September 25, 2014 Author Report Posted September 25, 2014 So at 900-1000w, if it still isn't moving the 3XL much, that sub must be under rated I would imagine.... It does have a 3" flat wound coil and a 562oz motor so over 1000 watts would be plausible, right? I am looking into a new amp, something DC, CT Sounds, Crescendo or similar. SMF93 Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 If you have the money upgrade to a better amp do it!( crescendo, soundqubed, sundown, Rockford Fosgate, etc)
