Jay Bee Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Can someone tell me is it possible to Desulfate a battery as I have seen this: http://www.optimate.co.uk/cg020001.htm I have a few battery's that I would like to try this out on rather then getting rid of them for scrap. I think it uses high voltage 16.5v and really low amps 0.6a - 0.8a at bursts. Any information that you guys can give me is much appreciated.
SLYentist Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 minor sulphation can be repaired, but some sulphation can be so bad and built up that it will short out neighboring cells. My CTEK 25000 charger desulphates before every charging cycle, and has a reconditioning cycle, which is voltage up to 16.5V at around 3amps that causes the ionic fluid to mix inside the battery, bringing some life back to a neglected battery. I've never been able to revive a wet-cell battery below 7 volts, though. I've never heard of this brand, but maybe others have. I've had great success with CTEK. Cables and wires almost never fail; the terminations do.
mcfalcon Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 I have taken a wetcell that would not take a charge, opened it and rinsed with water, then poured baking soda in and water on top of that(which is quite a reacton), and then put new battery acid in it(which was under $7 at parts store) and was able to charge the battery and use it again. Battery was good until I sold truck. Still learning but have started gathering.
