help with new monitor

Recommended Posts

My mom is looking at getting a new monitor for xmas for my brother. She is stupid about technology though so im getting some ideas for her. Max price is $180.

The computer is the family computer but is used 90% of the time for gaming. So I would like a nice gaming type monotor. Mostly play FPS games. Right now we are playing on an old 720p TV so I would like an actual monitor. Max height is 18". 21-27" screen preferred as the TV is 19" and is kinda small.

nothing crazy for resolution. Just running a 7870Ghz graphics card and it struggles at high setting on BF4. Or if you can find a graphics card to pair and a cheap monitor that would be best. Thanks for any help or info you guys can provide. If it's a bundle I can sway her to maybe $220.

1. With that budget Id get a nice flat screen tv and hook up the hdmi out the graphic card

2. Run a system performance test on BF4, the button to start this is in the lower right corner when you are looking at your graphic settings ingame.

Alot of people I play with have all their settings on low except texture quality and a few others on medium/high, and these are folks with dual r9 or something else expensive

When I started playing I had everything on high/ultra and it worked ok but my k/d was not as good as it was after I got my system performance into the green.

3. Since you play BF4 on PC you should add me on origin: sgunnem, so you can play with us (unless you already do lol)! Most of the death by bass BF4 clan is on the westcoast so they play when its after dinner over there, like midnight here in Ohio. But I play all the time (too much) and you can find me!

i a lot of tv's have high latency which is bad for a FPS. If you can find a tv with low latency <10ms then go for it, otherwise i would stick to a actual computer monitor.

That doesn't seem bad. Anything else? And yes I do play a bit but never when your guys are on. I'm always midday.

You could try this one.., it's close to price range and size.., really decient reviews and 5 ms refresh rate.., I myself run a 32" LED Tv as my monitor.., and unless you are one of the "hard core everything has to be exactly perfect" gamers this should work for you and your card just fine
