sundown x 18 recone?

Just doing some resarch on some different numbers and different set ups and read something that made me think of my sub (the sundown x18) the fat surround on my sub is only making it more of a sq woofer

A sundown x18 is a sq woofer

I want the loudest hard hitting bass/air movement possible.

So will doing a recone that has more cone area and greater xmax and better rms power handeling make a more bass drivin sub or am I wasteing my money? I know trial and error is the best test but this is going on the right concept?

(I have two kicker 1500.1) in an 05 f150

recones im considering (psi, fi, and possibly sundown I know they sometimes make a spl geared recone)

Huh? First off, an X18 is NOT an SQ subwoofer, not to say it can't sound good, but that doesn't make it a SQ sub. Second off, what does the surround have to do with it?

Reconing is probably not going to do what you want. Greater Xmax is only going to help you if you are pushing your sub to its excursion current limits, which you probably aren't. You aren't going to get enough cone area by reconing to make any noticeable difference either.

If you want to run more power, you are going to have to run a LOT more to make much of a difference, if you are already on 3K, another 1K isn't going to do it. If you are going to increase your power enough to be noticeable you might as well sell you X18 and get a more appropriate sub for the job.

If you want to get more output, a different box may get you what you want, but it depends on what your current box is. A larger box and higher tune will get your more output, but at the expense of some low end performance and peaky response.
