I would run a fuse from your amp to rear battery. put fuse as close to battery as possible. Have the runs be as short as possible over all. Are the 4000's dual inputs or no?

yes the 4000 is a dual input, I have the power wire that connects front and back batteries fused at two locations one under the hood and one right before the rear battery..the main reason I am asking is because ive never ran a fuse between battery and amp except in systems where there was no second battery. but then again every time there has been a second battery the amp itself has been fused

I would fuse between amp and rear battery keeping that fuse as close to battery as possible. It will save your amp and possibly your car if the worst happens.

I would throw a fuse on each line, maybe a 150 in each. If the 150's blow try a 200 in each (if either one blows). You could even start with a 100 in each if you got them.

Just what I would do.

Hey thanks for the advice I was thinking the same thing but using 200A breakers instead of fuseslike these ones from sonic http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_39102_Xscorpion-CB200L.html as I could basically set them right on the battery (not literally) and if they blew I would just have to correct the issue that caused it to trip and reset it and be on my way.

That might not blow and could fry your amp using 200's right off the bat but I could be wrong, would be nice if someone else spoke up, lol

Also, people used to say that breakers didn't allow electricity to flow as good as fuses but that could be wrong too, idk...

well in the owners manual from ct sounds it says 400a fuse so I'm assuming it would require 2 200A fuses one on each positive cable to the amp. I do remember a time where people claimed that breakers didn't flow as well as fuses however if this was true I don't see why houses would have ever gone away from the old style fuse to the newer breakers (I know ac vs dc is kind of like apples to oranges) The only thing I can find negative about breakers nowadays is that they degrade over time because of the way they function, my theory is if your tripping your breaker enough that the internal arc is going to pit the metal then you are probably doing something wrong or have other issues in your electrical system that require attention as you would be popping fuses just the same. I guess I should head over to CT sounds section here on the forum and try and get some more information on this specific to this amp.

There is a lot of reasons they use breakers in homes. I know CT Sounds says 400 amps but I would be worried of wrecking the amp if you went too big right away, that's all. It doesn't mean 400 amps trips it, it means xxx for xxx amount of time trips it. You would have to have no voltage drop and wang hard for it to draw 400 amps for long enough to trip them. Or short soemthing and they should trip pretty fast. I wish more would chime in since I am a noob though. Best of luck. Not sure what else to say.
