Flatsfisher8 Posted April 12, 2015 Report Posted April 12, 2015 I picked up one of these little power houses a few days ago, and hooked her up to a dual 2 X-8, and set my gains, DD-1 accordingly. Last night headed home, the remote started showing some clipping, which was odd because I wasn't listening to music, had some playing in the background while I was on the phone, and then it showed "Pro". I checked the amp, the red protect light is NOT on, i have a green power light. Remote still reads protect, and NO output from the amp whatsoever. I have checked my wiring multiple times, grounds are good, I disconnected the remote and ran a solid remote wire to it traditionally, and I'm still hearing the protect relay click, and still no output. I brought it in the shop, and wired it up to a regulated dc power supply, so I know I don't have any wiring issues, and she's still in protect. Anybody run into any similar issues? Troubleshooting?

Flatsfisher8 Posted April 12, 2015 Author Report Posted April 12, 2015 On a piece of mdf underneath the back seat. I drive a jeep so space is limited. Not running a downfiring setup, both sub and port up, so the abuse on the amp should be minimal.

All I'm getting to is that amps are full of tiny little soldered connections and if the amp is bouncing around or even vibrating heavily even being contained to an area, if a solder joint weakens or fails, the amp will protect and no longer work. Amp could be a dud, but doubt that if you got good use out of it for 3 days. Flatsfisher8 Posted April 12, 2015 Author Report Posted April 12, 2015 Well I haven't been hard on it at all yet, having a new box built right now, and trying to let the sub break in a little bit, and before dinner, I turned it up for maybe the second or third time as a demo for some friends, and she did great. Then on the ride home, done. Yeah the piece of mdf is tapped to the floor, it has two other amps on it. I previously had a DC 1.2k in its place and never had any issues. The mids amp and the amp for the od68 are still working fine. All 3 amps are running off their own grounds, but wired into the same distro block.

Flatsfisher8 Posted April 12, 2015 Author Report Posted April 12, 2015 Yeah, I oroginally had it on remote. I disconnected the bass knob and set it to head unit. So i don't have the remote telling me its in protect, but still no output. Like i said, the amps protect light has yet to come on. The green power light should be red correct? So basically, the remote says protect, but the amp shows nothing. Just no output. When it first happened, I turned the amp off, and it came back on after 10 minutes or so, and it played fine for the rest of the ride home. But after I shut it off, that was the last time it played anything. Now it stays in protect. It seemed like it was just in thermal protection, although it never got hot. Not to the touch anyways
