kmb504
I'm building a speaker box for an SUV and my space is limited. Does it make a difference how far from the port I put the subwoofer?
Joe X
Better show the box you intend to build, if your space is limited I'm sure you have other thing to worry about.
kmb504
My outer dimensions are 48wx11dx21h. I will be using 3/4 mdf. The speaker is an American bass xfl 15. Sub back port back. The inner port dimensions are 2.5wx 19.5hx21l. That should give me around 4cuft and tune to around 35hz right?
Joe X
4 net @ 34.2Hz 48.75 square inches of port area, area ratio 7.8:1 (a bit thin port), back to your question, no issue there on the placement of the sub, actually I would stay away the inner end of the port and place the sub towards the opposite end and do a lot of front to back bracing. kmb504
So you think I should go a little wider with the port and sacrifice a little more airspace?. And yea I planned on putting it on the opposite side of the port because I don't the the speaker will fit if mounted where the port runs along side the back. kmb504
Or what are some other options as far as a port? Other than a tube. I've only ever built slot ports. What other kind of dimensions can I build the port too and get that tuning.
Joe X
19x48x12 with a 2 3/4 wide port for example, I understand you are trying to save space though so not sure if the extra inch for depth is unacceptable for your goals.
