lahatte Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 I have a 2005 BMW 330i Sedan 6spd (60k miles!) and want to upgrade the sound system. It has the HK with 10 speakers and 2 6x9 subs. The subs are each mounted in a plastic enclosure that seems to fire into the trunk (trunk is sealed and sucks for bass). I'm thinking of putting an 8" Sundown (SD-2 8 D4) in each 6x9 location but need to fabricate a custom enclosure that needs to be low profile so I can fit luggage, etc on trips. I've been Googling for HOURs and can't find anything like what I have in mind. I don't think there is a hole above the 6x9's (they are mounted apart on each side of trunk unlike the coupes that have one center enclosure containing both subs). Since there is no hole, i guess I would need to cut one, yikes, and have enclosure protrude up into the hole to gain more trunk clearance/space, but not sure how much room there will be? Especially considering cone excursion? Any recommendations or experience with BMW E46's? Especially on cutting the metal on the deck? I don't want the subs visible from the interior. OR am I going about this wrong, is there a better way? I want to keep the other stock speakers, just need a LOT better bass. Thanks
