so i have just got my little x6.5 from sundown and cant seem to find much info on boxes for it. i have got some paramiters from sundowns websight but when i put them into my box programs they give me strange responses. So i built the 6.5 inch box from DD audios websight to get me going and it sounds on but not great. I used to get my boxes from PWK and was more than happy but as he is only designing for AD Designs now im a bit stuck and everyone i have messaged (Ram designs and another one cant remember) eather cant do it or dont get back to me. I dont mind paying i just want a box that suites my car and listening taste and dont have software to design for that. Please help

Sundown's recommendation of .3 cubes net volume tuned to 35 Hz looks to give a pretty reasonable frequency response. I'd would stick with those specs.

That DD Audio box is tuned to about 50 hz, so I'm not surprised it didn't sound very good.

If you post what you space dimensions are I'm sure someone will come up with a box for you.

There are far too many vehicles and subs and a handful of other variables to ever be this specific.

Sundown's recommended specs, as mentioned by triticum, are your best bet for a good sounding enclosure. It is rare to have a vehicle that is so acoustically unique that a manufacturer's recommended enclosure won't sound good in it, including your smart.

Build to .3 net and tune to 35 hz...

Yes, cabin gain in your car is going to boost the low end response. It will completely change the response, but in a reasonably predictable manner. Your cabin gain is going to start at a higher frequency than a full size SUV, but lower than a regular cab truck would.

What kind of frequency response are you looking for? Flat response or boosted low end? How much boost do you like? What kind of music do you listen to? First step to getting what you want is knowing what you want.

Once you know what you are trying to get the next problem you are going to have is there is only so much you can do to shape the response of that sub. That sub is going to have peaky output in your vehicle. You may be able to move that peak around and shape it to some degree, but you aren't going to get rid of it.

Yes, cabin gain in your car is going to boost the low end response. It will completely change the response, but in a reasonably predictable manner. Your cabin gain is going to start at a higher frequency than a full size SUV, but lower than a regular cab truck would.

i like somthing fairly flat with a bit of low end lift. i want it to exten down as much as poss. i listen to soulfull house deep house rnb and jazz.

Tuning to Sundown's recommended 35 Hz should let you play down as low as you want to go, but the output is going to be fairly peaky. There isn't much you can do about that, you just bought a peaky sub. Decreasing the box size would help, but as you make the box smaller the port is going to have to get longer and very quickly you will find yourself in a spot where the port is so long its an issue.

ok but where can i get port size for the slot port and box dimentions from? i dont mind paying. such a shame pwk no longer makes boxes as his custom boxes were great

The 7.5 sq in of port area the DD designed box has is a pretty reasonable amount for that size sub. You could try extending the port on that box externally. You are going to have to extend it quite a bit though.
