UK Noobie here, box design troubles

Hi guys, i do have a post down below but this is a different question so i thought a new thread would be easier. I have been planning to build myself a sub box for my single alpine type r 10, I've been looking at many different options and I've decided how i would like the box to be in my car but the problem I'm facing is after putting in my dimensions my box comes up at 2.4ft3 and alpine only recommends a 0.7 to 1.3ft3 box so it would sound pretty rubbish in a box like that i assume? what are the drawbacks of building a box to that size?

I can't really help by telling you my taste in music as i listen to everything so thats not much use, it is going to be ran off a JBL 14001 amp though and it is in a fairly small car. Main thing i want to achieve is to be able to have my music nice and loud but still be able to have passengers (aka Girlfriend) in the car who don't like loud music.

As always any help, comments or criticisms are welcome as its the only way i learn

my personal experience with alpine subs, be it that they were type s 12's however. They did not like a box any bigger than the biggest spec recommended by alpine. They sounded absolutely horrible in the larger box.

You don't have to use all of your available space. Build the enclosure to recommended specs or from another design that fits your subs requirements, then secure it in place so it doesn't move around while driving.
