i see your point what I was saying is it is a very basic in/out inverter where it does not change the output voltage

Then how does it change volume?
An amplifier is not a DC to AC inverter. An inverter is just an inverter, an amp is just an amp. Car audio amplifiers simply require DC in order to amplify an AC signal. The DC powers the components required to amplify the AC signal that is input via RCA. No inversion of voltage.

Home audio amplifiers use an AC power source instead of DC.

Edit: at least, there is no inversion of voltage of the audio signal itself.
