db_speakerbox Posted November 20, 2015 Report Posted November 20, 2015 What's the reason you want a little bigger enclosure?More output? Shrinking the port will lower the output.Yea but isnt it better to have a little more spaace than port area? What do you suggestIt's not that simple, whenever you change net volume you are going to change output. Once you have enough port area, adding more wont change anything. My priorities when designing boxes is to have the right amount of port area first, even if it means having a little less net volume than I'd like. Once there is the proper amount of port area then you can focus on getting more net volume, if desired. Just curious, how do you determine port area? Modeling, xmax/tuning calculations or a general sqin per cuft?

Even though they recommend 1.5 cubes lets say out of curiosity i threw it in a 2.25 cube box it would have more output correct? But be more peaky at tuning?

Even though they recommend 1.5 cubes lets say out of curiosity i threw it in a 2.25 cube box it would have more output correct? But be more peaky at tuning? Yup, that's pretty much it. As you make the box larger you will get more output but only around the tuning frequency. This can make the output more peaky. Also as you make the box bigger cone excursion increases so you have to keep mechanical power handling in mind. I use the calcs as a starting point then just test and test some more. I assume you use hornresp?
Triticum Agricolam Posted November 20, 2015 Report Posted November 20, 2015 Yeah, Hornresp and WinISD depending on the particular application. "Nothing prevents people from knowing the truth more than the belief they already know it.""Making bass is easy, making music is the hard part."Builds:
