cocoleveo7686 Posted November 18, 2015 Report Posted November 18, 2015 So i am set on getting the dss ethos 12's They say on website they require 1.5 cubes net tuned to 32hz with 40 sq inches of port. Id like to go a little bigger, maybe 1.7 cubes each. Here are my dimensions but i cant get 80 square inches of port for 2 of them with my space so with that in mind what do you recommend for port area? 15H by 37.5W by 21D I believe its 5.55 cubes gross and after displacement and everything i can be at 3.5 cubes, but my port area will be lower than 80. Unless i do aero port which then i am not too sure on what do get port to and if i can even tune to 32.

When i put it into winisd the bandwidth seemed good. What do you recommend joe for an enclosure for these then? Why will they play peaky and how do you get a sub not to play peaky?

To make the output less peaky you need to decrease the net volume. There is only so much you can do though and if your have a sub with a really tight suspension, you are only going to be able to improve things a limited amount. Also please note that by reducing the peakyness of the sub you are also reducing its efficiency, everything is a trade off. Once you have enough port area, adding more wont change anything. My priorities when designing boxes is to have the right amount of port area first, even if it means having a little less net volume than I'd like. Once there is the proper amount of port area then you can focus on getting more net volume, if desired.
