EddieC
Around a year ago I upgraded my system to run around 3k rms. I installed a 220 amp HO alt, an Optima Yellow Top Group 34/78 under the hood and a Diehard Platinum P1 in the rear. 1/0 gauge wire was used for the runs, along with the Big 3. Batteries were connected with a positive to positive run with 250 amp fuses close to the posts between the positive run. Negative to negative with rear battery also grounded to the chassis in the rear. Up until about a month ago I read a constant 14.4 on the voltmeter, dipping to 14.0 at the lowest on the hard hits. Now I seem to stay around 14.2 with dips into the 13.8 range. Just wondering if this is a sign that a battery or the alt is failing, or if I should be charging the rear battery with a stand alone charger to top it off. This is the first time I've ran 2 batteries so I'd like to know what to check. Thanks in advance. 2loud4uboyz
Do charge your rear battery , really charge both. Make it a practice to put them battery's on the charger every month. I'm sure someone will chime in and give your a better answer , but this is something I've learned the hard way. The Alternator isn't a battery charger.
