Sub radiating area is a 2-dimensional measurement. It doesn't matter how deep the cone is, your radiating area is the same. When calculating radiating area you typically add in 1/2 the width of the surround. All that matters is how wide it is, how for it sticks out is irrelevant. ETA: You are going to have far greater differences in efficiency between like size subs due to differences in moving mass compared to slight differences in radiating area. x infektid x Posted January 30, 2016 Author Report Posted January 30, 2016 so the basic answer is ,a 12 inch is a 12 inch . the sd (surface area) is what makes the difference.. the surround dont make a difference UNLESS the x-max is longer . ok got it.. if my ears dont buzz. you need more ..
