Amp, Stereo, Pre-amp, Crossover

Recommended Posts

So I know the basics of, a amp is, well, a amplifier. Amplifies the signal introduced to it, and a crossover allows you to adjust certain frequencies in the hearing range. I know there is still a stereo and pre-amp, are their others I am missing? I am going to be looking into a nice 3.1 set up for theater experience. I just have no idea what those last to I said are for, if they are needed. Then to top it off, let's say you have all them, what order do they all need to be connected in so they do they job in how ever they effect the signal.

All modern av receivers, you can adjust frequency between the main speakers and the sub. Pre amp is pretty much like a input controller, it can boost signal and have multiple inputs. If you are building speakers then u would need to buy a crossover for them or if you are buying pre built towers and centers then you wouldn't need nothing except a av receiver.
