hughjapackage Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 So I'm thinking of bumping mu sub up from a 10 to a 15, but the problem is that my trunk has a weird brace near the cab about 6 inches wide that drops the max height from 23 inches to 15 inches. So I drafted up a ported enclosure that will fit in my trunk. Here are a couple pictures of the design. Depth: 27" Height: 20" Width: 18" The total volume after bracing and port displacement is about 3 cubes, the port is tuned to around 39 Hz. My question is this a good/efficient design? Do you think it will sound good with a Sound Qubed HDC 4 15?
Awaiting_Equinox Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 why is the sub all the way on the other side of the box? put the sub along side the port, it will sound better and look better. the enclosure looks good, but that sub cut out needs to be relocated bass and bewbs.. and beer
Triticum Agricolam Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 You have it tuned a big higher than most folks are these days, though it depends on what kind of music you listen to. How much port area does it have? What amp are you going to be using? I'd probably make the openings in your window brace a little bigger. hughjapackage Posted February 18, 2016 Author Report Posted February 18, 2016 The reason the sub is mounted on the end like that is so that the box will be parallel with the side of the trunk so i can access my folding seats. The area of the port is 48 sq inches, the windows in the brace are 5" x 5" and the current amp ii'm running is a sound qubed 2200.1 and will be running with the new sub if i decide to purchase one. Power supply for the amp is already sorted out. This is just a concept design and i appreciate all your input, thanks.
hughjapackage Posted February 18, 2016 Author Report Posted February 18, 2016 Oh and the thickness of the MDF of the new box will be 1"
Triticum Agricolam Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 If you don't already have the 1" MDF, I'd just go with 3/4". 1" MDF REALLY SUCKS to worth with. Those sheets weigh like 120 lbs. Your box should be plenty rigid enough with just 3/4" material anyway. ALPINE408 Posted February 18, 2016 Report Posted February 18, 2016 if you are going to use 1" that middle brace is really not needed IMO keeping the Baffle solid will do so much more Have you ever had your woofers blown?
hughjapackage Posted February 19, 2016 Author Report Posted February 19, 2016 No I don't have nay of the material yet since i like to plan things way ahead of time due to time and money restrains because of my many hobbies. I guess I'll go with 3/4" MDF. Thanks for all your input guys, really helped a lot.
