Masterbasser Posted April 9, 2016 Report Share Posted April 9, 2016 I fiberglasses resined the inside of my new enclosure, was wondering how I should paint over it, looking to do a light color in the port. a friend said to just spray paint it but was wondering what you guys thought? yurvalentine Posted April 9, 2016 Report Share Posted April 9, 2016 I like to hit it with primer just so I can sand it down a bit and get it as smooth as possible, but if you aren't worried too much about how it looks you can just paint it. Resin is pretty easy as far as what kind of paint you can use, in my industry training we sprayed everything from acrylic to latex paint and they all work fine. Just make sure your surface is clean (a quick wipe down with a little bit of acetone is a good idea) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Masterbasser Posted April 10, 2016 Author Report Share Posted April 10, 2016 I noticed in the port some of the resin dripped off the top and onto the bottom creating a couple hard balls of resin, how should I go about taking these out? I have a right angle driver which I used to sand everything down with 150 grit and also 40 grit sanding stick ons. I guess current plan as far as painting will be to primer port area and sand it down then paint it. no plans to take care of some imperfections in resin, looking for advice as far as on the outside I have a lot of spray bedliner I will use and on front of box not sure yet. yurvalentine Posted April 11, 2016 Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Sanding is going to be the best way to take care of the dribbles imo. Looking for advice on what exactly? If you aren't wanting to make the surface perfect you coul skip the primer and go straight for paint, resin isn't going to absorb much if any. Primer is just nice for making it look pretty. Airborne Posted April 11, 2016 Report Share Posted April 11, 2016 Hit it all with red scotch bright from carquest or something like that and paint right over. That or use 600 grit automotive sandpaper to scuff. Surface prep before you sand anything!! I see people sand then de grease and the wonder why they have sopte lifting off.
