vnisme Posted June 14, 2016 Report Posted June 14, 2016 I have had my JBL GTI W15 for a few years now and I love the way it sounds compared to other subs I have owned. It is sitting inside a sealed box in my trunk, but my problem is that I feel my rear seats take away a lot of SQ and SPL from this sub. I feel that if I did not have rear seats blocking the cabin from the sub, it would sound a lot louder and have more SQ. I have decided that in the near future I would like to do an infinite baffle, porting through the rear deck. I can take down my seats but, i would rather keep them up for functionality. So my question is, do you think it would be better if I did an IB with the 15 in. JBL and port it through the rear deck so I can keep my seats up, or just go for dual 8's which I can mount where the 6x9 holes are, or go for dual 8's in a 4th order that ports through the rear deck? Opinions please!

Trough the rear deck or the ski hole. black BMW X1 2.0 l 192 hp OEM head unit, Amplifiers : Audison AP 8.9 with integrated DSP and Ampere Audio 1200. Focal ES 100 K in front doors, and Dayton RS 180 for midbass under the front seats. 2 SSA DEMONS 10" subs, in a sealed box. SecondSkin Damplifier on front doors, and Luxury Liner Pro for the cargo area.

I believe the recommended spec for a ported box for the GTI is like around 4 cubes and I think that might be pushing how much room I want to take up in my trunk as well. I like to be able to use my trunk for storage as well... :/ hahaha

You could fire it backwards instead of "through the rear seats". vnisme Posted June 14, 2016 Author Report Posted June 14, 2016 I think a 4th order for the 15 might take the whole trunk, thanks for the suggestion! I will try to look at how big a 4th order for the 15 would need to be. I have tried moving the box around, it is louder facing the trunk compared to firing it at the seats. Because of how sedans are built, I feel there is a difference in SQ when I hear it from the cabin, compared to when I hear it in the trunk which sounds like pure bass. At the same time, this is the best sub I have ever heard in the cabin. All opinions are appreciated! Thanks anyways
