DLHgn Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 I'm in the beginning stages of designing an enclosure for my truck and had a question about ports. Lets say you have a slot port in the middle of your baffle and it goes longer than you need so that it has to split/ride along the back wall (I'm not sure what this kind of port is called so I'm calling it a split slot port). How would that affect my port length and how would I account for it? Before you ask, I don't have a design or specs. I'm just in the process of brainstorming up some possible designs and was curious about this. I don't even know the exact dimensions I'm working with yet.
Triticum Agricolam Posted June 17, 2016 Report Posted June 17, 2016 Where you split the port each side will be half as wide as the center section is. For example if your port is 4" wide, where it splits and goes to each side it will then be reduced to two 2" wide ports. Measure down the centerline to figure out the port length. While what you want to do will work fine, but it is rather space inefficient. Also the ports usually end up with really high aspect ratios, which is less than optimal for good airflow. DLHgn Posted June 17, 2016 Author Report Posted June 17, 2016 I was just curious. I haven't really decided on a design and really can't until I have the specs for the space I want to use (area behind the seats of my '98 Ford Ranger Extended Cab). I was thinking maybe two subs. One behind each seat. I'm trying to make it as covert as possible so that when someone walks by it is not as easy to tell that I have a system due to the fact that pickup trucks are notoriously easy to break into.
