What is the result of a steeper slope?

Recommended Posts

Example:

Recommendation of a mid speaker HPF setting is @ 125Hz (12dB/oct). If I were to give a steeper slope (24dB/oct in this case), in what way will the recommendation change or will it? I know its not really common to give Mids/Highs that slope but I'm just curious.

Also, is it possible to use LPF from my amplifier for my subs while having an active crossover on my HU though I do not set the LPF for my subs on the HU? Or would this cause interference and its strictly one or the other?

the difference in the slopes is how fast the frequencies at that crossover point and beyond are attenuated. the steeper the slope, the greater the attenuation.

yes, you can use the amplifiers LPF in conjunction with your HU. The amplifier will most likely give you more control over the exact frequency you want to cross at, whereas most HU's have set points to choose from.
