Noah Lee Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 HI ive just bought a sundown E8v5 and before i built the box, i will have to use half inch ply wood to get the most cubic feet for the space i have the box will be 30 inch wide by 12 inch high and 6 inch deep. i am unsure on weather i should use a 3 inch round port at 18 inch long to tune it to 34hz and brace the inside or do an L port as not sure how much displacement the L port would take up but i feel the L port would add some good bracing. any help would be much appreciated

ckeeler11 Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 A 3" port will only give you 7" of port area Sundown recommends a minimum of 8" and if you going to be running at full power you probably want 10-12. I dont believe you have enough room to run a slot port as you are already tight on space. If you can squeeze another inch in depth you could go slot ported 10.5x1.25x38 for a tune of 32 at .8 with woofer displacement. that would leave you some room to reinforce your box since you will be using .5"
Redriverado Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 Not to thread jack but I'm working on a build for 8 or these e8 v5s and was wondering if they are underated as much as the rest of sundown, I know they're 300 RMS but could they handle 4 or 500 daily?

The biggest problem is the depth, a E-8 v.5 is just over 5" deep, so there is no room for a port behind it. You are going to be limited to about a 22" long round port fired out the side. A single 3" port isn't enough port area, like ckeeler said. Given the space you have, this is how I'd do it. I'd use a port 2.125" wide by 5" tall port fired out the side of the box: You could the put the sub cutout somewhere along the top. Keeping it away from the inner port mouth would be better: Assuming 1/2" material is used, that box in my pictures has a net volume of about .54 cu ft, 10.625 sq in of port area, and should be tuned to around 35 Hz. None of these specs are really ideal, but I think its about as good of a compromise you are going to get with the space you have to work with. Noah Lee Posted October 5, 2016 Author Report Posted October 5, 2016 unfortunately at the max i hav 7 inch depth and that is the absolute max so cant go any deeper than that so think i will go with ckeeler11 alternatively if i did 30" wide 12" high and 7" depth would a 4 inch areo port at 30 inch long and slightly sticking out the box work ? or is ckeeler11 design better ?
ckeeler11 Posted October 5, 2016 Report Posted October 5, 2016 a 4" x 30" aero port would give you a tune of 37 Hz. the box Triticum outlined above would be a nice box and would be the direction I went.
