Bigwheelw
What would be the pros and cons of reconing my zv4 12 to a 15 or 18 I have an American Bass 4000 fr amp and a pretty good dose of trunk space. I listen to a lot of rap like Jeezy, lil Wayne, 3six mafia etc.
ShadeTreeMechanic
Cone area is king. I don't know how it works out cost wise but would you only be keeping the magnet assembly? If the only reason to do this is for more output, I would add another 12. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
Bigwheelw
I am looking for more output. The recone to an 18 is around $220. If I could find another 12 at a decent price I would go that route. On those zv4s 10-18 all use the same motor.
ShadeTreeMechanic
One thing that comes to mind is the cone area to voice coil ratio. The more coil per cone area the better. Going from a 12 to an 18 in the correct box on the same power should be a noticeable difference. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
Bigwheelw
Thats kind of what I was thinking. The guy at the local audio shop acted like I was crazy for wanting to go to an 18 over a 12 and told me it was pointless. I figured he was full of shit lol from my past experience 18's were always louder and moved a lot of air.
ShadeTreeMechanic
Doubling the cone area would be twice as loud or 3db. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
ShadeTreeMechanic
I don't know if going from a 12 to 18 would be double. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
Bigwheelw
It's $220 to recone and about $650 for another 12. I would love another but I need to save a lot lol
ShadeTreeMechanic
So you can get the basket and cone and voice coil and spiders assembled for 220? What does a motor cost? 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
Bigwheelw
I have yet to find just the motor. Their prices on rebuild parts isn't bad at all. I have been searching for a blown one for cheap.
