Aeroport tuning help (Four SA8v2s)

Hey guys, i havent been on here in years cause I don't really like the whole attitude of the internet, as im sure everyone loves everyone. Anyways I got my hands on four sundown sa8v2s, and im in the process of designing a box for them all, but I'm having a hard time getting the porting the way i usually prefer. Im pretty decently knowledgeable about box designing and building, i've designed and built hundreds of boxes, but this box has me a little stuck.

Dimensions are 14" tall x 20" deep x 30" wide, subs firing upwards, double baffle on top, plan on doing a good amount of bracing and supports, between subs for example.

The problem I'm running into is that i prefer aero ports, and I'm trying to figure out what will work best, but i can't seem to design the porting according to the usual.

So! I've read that port area for these should be about 12-16in^2 per cube, and as im at 3.8 cubes, it comes out to 45(in^2) - 60(in^2). which by using aeros, means i can do one 8" aero, two 6" aeros, three 5" aeros, four or five 4" aeros, or seven 3" aeros. (Just the possibilities limited to port area only). But I also just read that port volume is really what matters, but i've never gone off that before. And i was just reading that two 4" aeros would be fine for just two of them, so the four 4" or five 4" aeros would be fine, but when i plug those numbers in i get a high tuning of about 47.6Hz @ 2.5 cubes, and i like lows so i gotta be able to hit down into the high 20s. (previous setup was two Zv4 10s on 5k, hit 145ish from 25hz FLAT up to 43hz or so, while being able to hit down to 20hz with authority, i know lows). So I'm looking for some CONSTRUCTIVE advice, please. idk if im just missing something but i've never had this issue designing a box before.

Due the fact that 30" is the largest dimension of the box, you are going to be pretty limited with aero ports unless you want to have some of the port sticking outside of the box. To get an aero port/s with enough port area and tuned where you want it to be it's going to have to be pretty long. Yours is one of the situations where a slot port can make more sense because you can wrap it around the inside of the box to get all the length you need.

Another thing to consider when it comes to aero ports is they lose a lot of their advantages once you have to start using more than one of them. Once you get up to using three or more aero ports, they have no advantage over a slot port. I wouldn't never build a box using more than two ports unless there was absolutely no way to avoid it.

Thats what i was thinking was gonna be the case. thanks for the input! i would be okay with a couple inches out, but any more and it would be too close to the substrate it was firing upon. i'll probably do a slot then, firing rearwards. would you suggest a slot along the bottom of the box, kind of suv style, or should i make it a center slot, or standard L port that i usually stick with for slots? reason i ask is that i've always wanted to try a box with a slot along the bottom.

i dont recommend running much aero port external unless you just use heavy wall pvc for most of it. The precision ports are pretty flimsy and i think they dont like being outside the box.

right, i've never actually used a "true aeroport" i've always used PVC. i had a Stereo Integrity 18 in the trunk of my 4th gen Maxima with a huge 8" pvc port that took up half the box. that thing was pretty sturdy, i didnt even have to glue it in or seal it. i'll probably go slotted then. i can make slotted look just as dope.

How you want to layout the slot port is really up to you. A standard "L" style slot port uses the least amount of material and usually results in the port with the lowest aspect ratio. If you really want to do a box with a slot along the bottom I see no reason why you shouldn't do that now. Those style ports usually have higher aspect ratios, so you might want to error a bit on the high side when it comes to port area.
