Question about Pre-Out HU Voltage and Amp Gains

Recommended Posts

So awhile ago I realized my speakers (highs/mids) were making buzzing sounds.

From this forum, I learned that it was because I have a crappy HU (JVC KD-A605). Essentially, since the pre-out voltage is lacking (it claims 5V, but clearly isn't), I have to crank the gains on the amps.

Using an SQ2200 and Q4-90, gains set with DD-1 and monitored with the clipping knob indicator, the bass amp is set to 100% gain, while the 4channel is around 70%.

I'm wondering, if I get a different HU with better pre-out voltage, what will happen.

Will I be able to lower the gains on the amps and maintain the same output?

And will this affect my electrical?

Currently I can go full tilt and drop to about 13.5V (270A JS Alt, stock battery, all 2/0 welding throughout).

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.
