bigmacjack Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 I am building my first spl vehicle. i have a 92 mazda 323 hatchback and i have 2 12" ascendants havocs. I am just wondering what would be the best box design for these? the guy i work with is recommending i do a 6th band but i have never done one and have no experience with it. so any input you guys have would be greatly appreciated!
neuspeedescort Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 if you have 2 12's isn't not enough to constitute a wall so a bandpass isn't really an efficient option. i would suggest a good slot ported box. likely subs up port back. i have owned a 323 hatch and the hatch design likes to get loud. you will likely not fit it in the given hatch space. so the seats will need to be folded down or a floor may need to be built. best of luck and welcome to the site.
JeepAndBassXJ Posted January 9, 2017 Report Posted January 9, 2017 For SPL your best bet is to do a high tuned regular ol ported box. 4ths and 6th introduce more variables than you want and also ported setups are the ones holding the majority of loudest scores. You can look at my Honda SPL thread: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/207575-my-spl-adventures-log-w-4-banks-of-supercaps-150db-honda-civic/ This box is one of my test boxes for 2 12s. For your box if you are on reasonably low power 3-3.5 cubes seems to be a decent size to start with. Use an 8" areo port, DONT DO SLOT PORT!! Tune it in the upper 40's as a starting point and then adjust to meet your car's resonate frequency. This box does Mid 51s on 3.5k and Mid 49s on 2k dbdrag style.
