bongobennie Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 I want to build a box that will fill my spare tire well them mount the sub on top of the box, I will make a custom bracket to leave 3 inches from the face of the subs and the spare itself but the tire will cover most of the drivers, think this is a bad idea? I have no way to really test it out. 2002 Honda Insight (08 Fit drivetrain), JL JX1000/360
06RTCharger Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 You can fit a sub box AND a spare tire, all in that tirewell? Thatd be interesting to see. Subs dont require being on axis to the listener or any of that, so maybe the tire wont block much. But the direction the sub and port is firing is usually a big aspect when it comes to sub output. So with the tire being right infront of the firing direction, it will probably affect ur output.
bongobennie Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 Its a 1st gen insight and the spare tire well is pretty much a square box 22x24, Im going to have a 10 inch deep hole with a 7 inch box, 2 10s in the corners of the top/face then mount the 22" tire above it so the tine will cover just over half of each driver but the tire will be 3" or more from the top/face, keeping a low CG is important so in might be worth a db or 2 (not 3) 2002 Honda Insight (08 Fit drivetrain), JL JX1000/360
06RTCharger Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 If you start building it, post it up in a build log here. Never seen a spare tire sub setup with the spare tire still in it with the box lol, that'd be pretty cool to see. Something different. ive never heard of ur car before, so just went and checked it out. I been wondering how electric cars would perform with a sound system, like the electrical side of things. Does ur car use a 12v battery?
bongobennie Posted February 18, 2017 Author Report Posted February 18, 2017 All Im looking at is setting a square box in square hole, Instead of setting tire in a 10 inch deep square it will be a three inches deep.... My car has been gutted of all the original hybrid gear so it doesn't apply, but Insights have a DC to DC converter instead of an alternator rated at 70 amps and it has a regular 12v battery, insight guys can get away with about 750 watts rms before computers get testy, also adding weight is a major downfall but I removed a lot with the IMA battery removal and I'm adding much more power. 2002 Honda Insight (08 Fit drivetrain), JL JX1000/360
06RTCharger Posted February 18, 2017 Report Posted February 18, 2017 Thats gonna be a cool "sleeper" bass ride lol. Id never look at a hybrid vehicle and think that theres a bass system in it lol.
