DD-1 readings varying

So I'm running a stock head unit through a 3sixty.3 into my amps. I am tuning everything with my DD-1 and am getting varying results. My undistorted level from the head unit is 29. I verified this again by plugging the rca directly into the DD-1, and everything checked out. If i plug the rcd's back into the amp with all knobs set ( gain down, crossover frequency max, infrasonic filter minimum and bass boost minimum). now at the same volume level the signal distorts at around 25-26. am i missing something, because my other amps do not have this issue.

Ok so if i test with the car running i get undistorted up to 28, so i guess i can just tune based off of that. I never run the system at that volume without the car running anyway.

What stock headunit has preouts that you can attach rca cables too?

Head unit runs into a 3sixty. The 3sixty has rca outs.

So then your going off a processed signal.

You never tested the high level inputs of the oem headunit (the factory speaker output wires)?
Because those will typically be different.

When using a processor to oem it almost seems best to test each chain link in the system separately, and not test the oem headunit through the processor, and then once you get the headunit dialed in go and adjust the processor volumes to match.
