Overpowered amp

Hello, Im still kind of new to car audio and was just curious if I can do something again. My sub is rated at 1500 watts but my amp is at 3000 watts. Can I run my sub on it as long as I moderate the volume and keep an eye on both the amp and sub. 

I don't really know how else to say this, so if any of that doesn't make sense I'll do my best to clarify. Thanks again!

first and foremost what is the equipment, secondly how is your electrical because 3k is more than a stock system can take without a few upgrades. but the short and simple answer is yes, if your gain is set correctly and your arent clipping its possible, you can also wire to a higher ohm load so you arent drawing as much power if your sub is a DVC, which if its 1500rms it should be. Also, and since i dont know your wquipment its just an assumption, but if your new to audio chances are your amp isnt doing 3k like it says

I upgraded the "big 3" to 0/1 gauge wire. I also have a secondary battery which is the XS power d5100r xs series at 3100 amps. The amp I have is a Sonido Fx-3000.1d and the subwoofer is a sundown x12. 

Id like to say I know what I'm doing for the most part, however I just want to be sure I dont damage my system.

What is the coil configuration of the sub?

I think that amp dyno'd 2500 @ 1ohm certified. but did 3500+ i think on 1ohm dynamic... I think?

If you keep it clean, you shouldn't damage an x12 with that amp.

It's a dual 2 ohm
