Good idea! Some car audio companies do the same thing, just pick the parts from a catalog, have them assembled in China then they slap their brand name on them and cha-ching. They look like DDZ copies. Let's see how well they perform.

Yes, now days you can do the same, in smaller batches.
Still i suggest of buying subwoofers from a well known brand just to get warranty. 

When these break, we need to fix it ourselves, no problem for a enthusiast, but a hobbyist it might be too much!

Yeah but subwoofers don't really have warranty, only for factory defects. Pretty much if you blow it, it's your fault and you need to recone it.
