Been into stereos since my first Realistic car amp from Radio Shack with the 6x9's on the back window deck of my 1986 Buick Regal. I've been lurking here anytime I got questions. This one is totally a one off type. I know it's not most of your forte, but I just got a new to me boat and am setting up the stereo. The problem is I'm kind of a bass head and the acoustics are awful. My last boat I followed JL's recommendations to a "T" and was pretty disappointed. Not sure if it was my install, my set up, or just unrealistic. So, this one I want to get it right. The previous owner installed some nice JL marine grade equipment. M800/8 pushing the JL 6.5's, and a JL M200/2 pushing a JL 13W3V3-2 in a large (3.35 cu ft) sealed box that was installed in the engine compartment. Used all JL wiring for the amps including 1 AWG + and - WTF???? 200 watts pushing a 600 watt RMS sub. JL recommends a 1.75 cu ft sealed box. And placed the sub in the engine compartment. (that's like putting one under the hood of your car) I have this big waste of space in the boat I would like to use for an enclosure. I just don't know what to do with it. I will have to cut fiberglass to utilize it, and that concerns me. So if i can make a cut as small as possible, that would be best. So my thought is what if I can make a band pass box that will have just the port opening cut out? I know most of you feel the band pass has ran it's course a long time ago. I think it just might be the ticket for me though, and here's why. The area of interest in under the helm of my boat in almost a thin/flimsy fiberglass closet. It's not air tight by no means, so an infinite baffle is not ideal. I can attempt to make it air tight, but would then have to cut a large hole in the fiberglass, and back the glass up with a lot of wood to make it strong. I'm thinking a JL M7-12IB if I go this route. A ported box would need too much cutting of fiberglass, or would be shaking the inside of the "closet" and not filling the listening area. Sealed would be the same as the infinite baffle problem. Can someone design me a box that might be able to work for this particular application? I have a lot of room, BUT...... it's more long and tall, not very wide. Meaning the port would need to exit out the side of the box not the normal "face" if you will. If anyone is interested in attempting to create an enclosure please let me know. Thank you.

xlint89 Posted April 28, 2020 Author Report Posted April 28, 2020 The enclosure could be 1 or 2 10" or 12" subs. I had 2 JL M5-10W subs in ported boxes that were corner loaded under the helm of my other boat being pushed by a JL M600/1 wasn't really impressed.
xlint89 Posted May 9, 2020 Author Report Posted May 9, 2020 No replies? Does anyone know how to build a JL wedge HO enclosure? I need to build one out of marine grade plywood and fiberglass resin it for waterproofing. Can be for JL 10's, 12's, or the 13.5" Obviously I will pay for the help
