ShannanC Posted January 3, 2021 Report Posted January 3, 2021 Hey everyone. I am trying to lighten the weight inside my vehicle and I am thinking of switching over to a lithium battery. I know people that have horror stories, but I see all the great things people say about them online. I could use some guidance here. My current system is 5000 RMS watts. I have two XS Power D4800 batteries and a SB 1000 farad super cap. What are the pros and cons of switching to lithium and which batteries/cells should I be looking at? Thank you in advance! Happy New Years!
Dafaseles Posted January 3, 2021 Report Posted January 3, 2021 I certainly don't know everything, but I can share what I do know There are a lot of pros to going lithium. On 5000 watts, with the right alternator, you could power your whole vehicle with 1 battery or super cap bank or whichever way you decided to go. Also, the charge and discharge rate of a lithium is faster than AGM's, so more power delivery without the huge drops in voltage. Also, they're supposed to last longer as well. Cons, most lithiums you can't run under the hood because they can't handle the heat. I think XS makes one you can run under the hood though. And if your vehicle has some kind of vehicle management system, it could cause problems. Usually you can override or even bypass it though. You'd have to look into that. Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I've heard of lithium batteries being pretty picky on how many amps it can handle from an alternator. That being said, I'm going to be running a Limitless Lithium Cyber 12k pushing 2 Sundown Salt 4's off a Mechman 370. Depending on your alternator, you could use a Cyber 6k. Sorry, I don't know much about XS lithium or lithium banks, though I know tons of people run all kinds of lithium with no problems. In my opinion, if you're thinking of going lithium, do some research, decide what brand or even if you want to build your own bank, and go for it. I feel like the pros way outweigh the cons 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out!
