Dad has it and it won't delete majority of trojans, he gets viruses I don't I haven't gotten but 1 virus in 5 years. edit: XoftSpy is the best that I have used and I used: avast, avg pro, lavasoft ad-aware pro, spybot, and several others. maademperor Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) spybot wont detect a virus. if you have a virus or some other adware installed (goofy toolbars from alexa or someone) those items will get re-downloaded and installed as soon as the machine is on line again. what is it telling you its finding? if its cookies or mru stuff its not significant and will come back with your surfing anyway. (clear mru list: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142298) if you think you have a virus and AVG isnt finding it, try running Trend Micro's online scan. the problem with a virus scanner is that if you are already infected, it cant very well clean it as its "in residence" and whatever propogated it went unresolved to begin with. perhaps the online scanner will be more beneficial as it can run from a nuetral and clean environment. Trend Micro housecall: housecall.trendmicro.com also limewire is an invitation for spyware and viruses...examine the programs you have installed and you may just find the root of your problem.... ISO Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 had to go mods/admins said it was lagging the forum If thats what I think it means. you gotta start it and just walk away from you computer till its done. It takes alot to run it. Ya I forgot to mention about admin, I am always logged in as Admin. (Ican't figure out how to get out of it on vista) Like I said I couldn't make any promises just trying to help. Ipod Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) "Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove a multitude of adware files and modules from your computer. Spybot also can clean program and Web-usage tracks from your system, which is especially useful if you share your computer. Modules chosen for removal can be sent directly to the included file shredder, ensuring complete elimination from your system. For advanced users, it allows you to fix Registry inconsistencies related to adware and to malicious program installations. The handy online-update feature ensures that Spybot always has the most current and complete listings of adware, dialers, and other uninvited system residents." it does not say anything about protecting your comp from virus.. and like i said spybot isnt made to get rid of virus.. paul Posted May 18, 2008 Report Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) I think Spybot is a really good software. I use it and haven't run into any issue's with it. The only thing is, and this my own opinion, is that spybot does a good job for detecting malware. Which are worms that phiser's like to use to see into your computer. What ever you type, they see the same thing. But I don't think they are any good in detecting trojan or viruses. But that's my opinion. My suggestion is to have more that one protection and security software running at the same time. Reason for that is that each software has a very different virus defenition and very different strong points. For me, I run Spybot, Windows Defender, and C-Cleaner. I use to run ad-aware but it was just too slow. Never had any problems, well not yet. But as long as they continue to update I should be in good hands. I also suggest that you guy's try to clean out your registry. That may be the problem that you guy's are having. Trojan and Malware seem to be pretty good at slipping through the cracks of your computer's security. They also have a nasty habit of finding their way into becomming part of your registry. I would suggest you use C-Cleaner. It cleans everything out. Even shit you didn't think was there. Well there it is, my little 2-cents. Edited May 18, 2008 by paul Quote
