Uhhtaken
Currently trying to decide which would be better between the onyx series 2500rms 15 or platinum series 2000rms 18 from Resilent Sounds. Both are roughly the same price just dont know which would do better.
Joe X
What will be the vehicle and amp models?
Uhhtaken
13 F150 SuperCrew, amp for now is a skar 1500 but will be picking up a smart 3k, plan todo sub up port up and making a box that goes behind the passenger seat and take the space of the smaller fold down rear seat. Open to ideas but need to keep some rear seating capabilities.
Joe X
You will need 5-6 cubic feet net for the 18 and the sub not to be close to the roof for it to work well, if you can comfortably do that then I could model to compare both subs in their optimal boxes and see what I get but in a large enough box the 18" likely will be louder due to greater cone area, go get some measurements, if you have to do the 18" in a tight 4 cubic feet better go for the 15", it will work best in 4 cubic feet net. Uhhtaken
Doing some quick maths i can get a box thats 6.5 net for the 18. I just didnt know if the higher rating on the 15 would overcome the cone area of the 18.
Joe X
Get your measurements and then I try to answer the question with more data in.
Uhhtaken
What measurements you wanting? Have 28x21x28 is what ive been using for subboxpro.
Joe X
So this is what happens, 15 onyx in yellow, 18 platinum in orange, boxes 4 and 6 cubic feet net each both tuned to 32Hz: You see that 15 almost matching the 18 but just at tuning, the 18 more musical, and likely able to go to 7 net. Bear in mind that if 28 is for height, that's tall and close to the roof. So stronger motor can get close but cone area is better overall.
Uhhtaken
Okay so looks like 18 will be the play, how much space should i aim for between the sub/port and roof? Also what software is that?
Joe X
The aim is not to upset he roof, the answer is as far as you can, or as close as you have tested not to cause flex,BTW port area needs to be at least 75 square inches, software is bassbox.
