enclosure help

I have a JBL CS1204B that is in its original sealed enclosure, i think its tuned to 40hz. I was wondering if i could put the element from this subwoofer into a ported enclosure tuned to 35-40hz or something. Also, can i use chipboard instead of MDF? I don't know if this is a dumb question or not, i dont have a lot of experience in this area. Thank you

JBL CS1204B  is the product number, the sub model you need to find out by removing it from the box. Then if the sub can work in ported enclosures you can build yours to spec,  if you want to use cheap wood look for OSB instead of particle board.
