Amp cutting out...why?

Recommended Posts

I installed a stereo my car everything is wired good all crimped connections, ferrules used on power and ground.

The issue i have is at high volumes the fullrange amp cuts out (goes into protection) when volume decreased it comes back one. At 3/4 volume it is fine only happens when I push the system or song has music that I know draws more from it. Hence the high output alternator. Once the alternator was installed is helped a bit however still happens at higher volume. System is getting clean unclipped signal positive because I gain matched with a DD-1. I belive it is due to my grounds. They measure at highest 1.8 ohm this is at the ground distribution block. Need some advice.

First pass would be to shove the leads from the multi meter into the inputs on your amp and get a voltage reading there. If it's that repeatable, use a sine wave and work up the volume until it cuts out and note what the voltage drop is

I'd also look at your speaker wiring to make sure there's nothing scuffed / nicked / loose / etc

And also sanity check that gains are set properly and that you're not sending a square wave
