All_Ears_On_Me Posted April 26, 2025 Report Posted April 26, 2025 My friend got a system installed (amp $ Sub) and the person told them to never raise the HU up higher than 10. I told him typically you flat the EQ when setting gain. My first thought it was to fix the roll-off, but I think the plan was the allow the front factory door speakers match the bass output. Is this okay, can the gain be set safely with the bass EQ up ? The door speakers do not distort at the bass being set at 10 when at 3/4 volume. 400 watt 10 in sub, he now wants a 12 in 600 watt sub.
crispy_chick3n Posted April 26, 2025 Report Posted April 26, 2025 if the bass eq is set before setting gain you can still tune it to be ok, it's just going to distort at a lower volume which might make the system sound unbalanced. generally, you want to tune with eq flat so as not to add distortion into the input side of the amp. amplifiers will only amplify the signal they are being fed. if that happens to be a distorted signal, they will only make it worse.
