cryptz Posted September 8, 2025 Report Posted September 8, 2025 I downloaded the test tones for the dd1+ from smd's website and added them to my apple music library. I attempted to play that via apple car play. My receiver is a pioneer dmh wt7600nex. Distortion was detected 39/40 on the volume selection. It detected the 1khz signal but I was unable to set my offset. Basically it either said no offset or it set the offset was +15db as soon as i tried adjusting and no movement of the gains could fix it. I copied the same mp3s to a usb stick and it worked perfectly fine( same usb connection as apple car play). I am guessing there may be some type of gain normalization/volume matching function in apple car play. Not sure if there is a way to overcome this. Ive set the gains how i was planning to with the usb, but im just wondering about the implications of this with actual music. Not sure if my gains are set properly to listen to apple car play now. Wondering if people use carplay with a full fledge system or if there is a need to resort to something else, be it ipod or strictly usb. At the moment i just know music through carplay was a problem for the dd1+ and a straight usb was not. Quote
cryptz Posted September 8, 2025 Author Report Posted September 8, 2025 i should add i was using the 1khz offset tone for the offset adjustment, i know i didnt explicitly state that, but i do know how to use the tool. It works with usb. I also already turned off sound check and the equalizer in apple music. Of note my phone had sound check disabled the whole time, but my pc had it turned on, so its possible when i added the songs to the library on my pc sound check modified the file to even the gain. I will have to try it now that its also disabled on my pc, especially if i dont find anyone else with the problem. I initiatially thought this should be a wide spread thing Quote

cryptz Posted September 8, 2025 Author Report Posted September 8, 2025 like i said, thats what i ended up doing, but if all my music is going to be from carplay im curious what ive really accomplished. i am trying to understand why the audio files were that manipulated from carplay Quote
EricM9104 Posted September 9, 2025 Report Posted September 9, 2025 Apple Music compresses the files to their format, iOS devices have sound settings that have to be basically turned off to mimic playback from a USB drive. Always set it for the loudest possible input, in this case the USB drive with the files directly playing. That way no matter what the source, you run a minimal chance of sending a clipped signal. cryptz Posted September 9, 2025 Author Report Posted September 9, 2025 ok thanks, ill just cross my fingers. my concern was the overlap track was detected by the dd1 as a +15 overlap, implying to me the signal from apple music is boosted not turned down.. which means i could be clipping. i have all the eq, and volume normalization settings turned off. im thinking it might have been a result of wireless vs wired apple car play. i had the phone plugged in but realized it was paired wirelessly also. yesterday i did the whole forget device thing and just plugged it in for wired carplay. i havent tried to redo the gains, i may give it another go once my new subs arrive. That could be either a setting within your phone or Apple Music... Quote 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 110k miles | Stock 1996 GMC Yukon SLT 4dr 4wd | 260k miles | JVC Head-unit
