3.4_Aaron Posted January 9 Report Posted January 9 I have 2 sundown sa classics in a box tuned to 30 hz. The port currently fires a few inches away from my door. Would a new design with the port facing upwards be louder? Quote

Joe X Posted January 9 Report Posted January 9 I assume that box is for an ext cab, if the port direction is damaging your output will be because: 1) The port is less than 5" from the door. 2) the door is flexing bad. Said that 30Hz is rather low tuning which makes the the box play really low but loudness to the ear is less. The other causes are improper electrical or your amp and system settings (gains and such) are not correctly set. Subs themselves are also power limited if nothing helps you could upgrade subs too. 3.4_Aaron Posted January 10 Author Report Posted January 10 Yes it is in an ext cab. The port is about 2-3 inches away from the door. What tuning would you recommend for good daily music but also play pretty low? Quote
Joe X Posted January 10 Report Posted January 10 Your port is choked at 3" much worse if it's 2" so you are no good there, you should at least have 5" which is the port width as shown in your sketchup. I generally tune 33-34Hz for a louder experience with enough low end, obviously if you hear slowed stuff you will still want those lower tunings. At the same time if you are into those deep low ends, you pick something like the Sundown X, the SAs are more adequate for regular music. That is the X series takes more advantage of the low tuning, for those Sundown will recommend 32Hz. 1 Quote
