Amp Protect Caused By Rcas

Just wanted to share this with everyone. I mentioned a couple months ago that I learned if an amp doesnt see a good ground connection, theres a possibility that it will try and "steal" it from the RCA connection. I just experienced this myself puttin in the E8s. Makin a vid, I go to turn up the volume and all the sudden nothing. I check the amp....protect. Now I go into auto-pissed. I need to find an answer.....Im sure we've all been there. so heres exactly what I did.

pulled DMM out of somewhere.....(somehow I knew where it was....believe me I wouldnt have known if it was any other time)

checked voltage at amp- saw 3.3 (LAME!)

checked front fuse-fine

checked amp fuse- fine

checked bat voltage- fine

unscrewed subs- still protect

pulled 1st pair RCAs- protect

pulled 2nd RCAs- amp powers down

check voltage at amp- 1.4 WHAT???!!!

check ground location with power wire (car running)- BAD!

checked past ground screw with power wire (car running)- 14.3!!!!!

changed ground location, re-hook RCAs, good to go.

in some cases, some RCA's are grounded to the HU, so pulling them might make the amp shut off if the real ground is bad.

try changing up your grounding point and/or wire to see if its bad
