punchman
yesterday my buddy wanted to see which system was louder between us. he has 2 MTX MZS1204 12" subs in a sealed box placed in a 90 honda accord 4 door. his trunk is dynamated fully. i have 2 punch stage 1 10" subs placed in a ported box placed in my 93 mazda mpv van. i know his stereo is better then mine but when we cranked it up i out powered him with no problem. is it the vehicle? the enclosure? the tunning? what is it i really wanna know? thanks!! 2 15" Kicker L7's + Hifonics BXI 2006
David
generally the ported box will have more output, it takes an Insane amount of amp power to get a sealed enclosure as loud. also vehicle dynamics will vary from vehicle to vehicle, a trunk car is rarely as loud as a open air vehicle like a van or Suv. punchman
yeah thats very true. so the ported box doesnt need that much power from the amp to give it juice? and a sealed box will require more power? why is that 2 15" Kicker L7's + Hifonics BXI 2006
David
yep a ported box doesnt require as much power, they are more effecient in nature. a sealed box needs more power because the air behind the sub is trapped in the box and kinda holds the sub from moving. so you need more power to make it move more. the air behind a sub in a ported box still acts like a spring but its not as stiff.
