majorpayne Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 well i think one of my mt's went to subwoofer heaven yesterday... :rip_1: Its wierd cuz the coil looks okay from what i can see, the coil isnt scratchy at all, doesnt smell, tinsel leads are okay, but one coil doesnt read anything... I noticed it when i was doin some burps and noticed that one sub wasnt moving near as far as the other so i yanked it out and checked all the connections and everything and then put a dmm on the coils and that when i saw one wasnt reading 3.5 like the other. I might wallsocket it if it is one coil has gone out one me. im just lookin for some feedback from somebody to maybe give me an idea of what it may be. also the gains were set correctly. 54.7 volts ac 3000 watts @ 1 ohm. i posted this up on roe too but sometimes its hard to get an answer off that forum. Dale Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 More than likely it's a broken coil. Not burnt, just broken. And from my experience, the coil usually breaks close to the bottle-neck of the cone. Vibration causes that. Quote
majorpayne Posted December 31, 2006 Author Report Posted December 31, 2006 bump i was hopin for more responses..... anybody else got anything to say? and dale..i cant fix that can i? what do you mean by vibratons isnt that what subs are meant to do?? Quote
Dale Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Yes, that's what they are meant to do, but if the coil is not stuck properly to the former (cylindrical object that slides into magnet), then that can happen. You also have the fact of varying temperatures weakening the coil. You can probably fix it but it will involve taking the sub apart. These days ppl don't really waste time fixin' subs. I used to repair them but not any more. I just get new ones when they blow. Quote
WickedToys1 Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 it's an MT it has no warranty due to high power people put to them. the sub will just have to be reconed. Ernesto Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 Do you have a warranty on it? MTs and BTLs don't come with warranties. Quote
