Amp Blown Maybe?

ok so, accidently had the wrong song on the wrong bass knob volume....I put on...jeezy.....

anyways...start pulling out of the drive, volume on like 20, which isn't loud at all for me..50 is about max volume

The speakers hit just a lil and on the second big bass hit my shit turns off...I think my mids amp came off my box and hit the big amp..2607D hifonics...anyways

the fuse is blown I'm like thankgod...but today I put a piece of metal in the fuse position, it sparks so I assume a current is going through..amp won't come on..is this because I need a real fuse or am I screwed?

the power/speaker wire side which is what I think it hit, a piece of speaker wire...the metal part of the small amp hit the one going into the right speaker section and there's a lil bit of speaker wire exposed..

however, I smelled the left side near the rca jacks and it has the slightest of smells..I can't tell if that's just the amp or if it's burnt up..I hate to say it smells burnt up

input?

quick edit...the fuse from the second battery to my big amp is blown..it's only 250 amps too...

Rca main from indash to big amp, and then from there rca's to mids made the mids sound REALLY soft and not loud at all..as if the rcas were burnt up..I think that's what happened for sure the rca's must have touched a power wire or something but I can't imagine where cause there are no scars or anything on any of them..

get new RCAS and new FUSES...and try that out..upgraded maybe thats the problem...

That sounds good...it doesn't turn on at all though i had a piece of metal and it sparked so it connected...it should at least turn the light on protect you know? I couldn't have blown this brick amp I wasn't pushing it that hard....the little amp is working fine...the rca's truly may be a problem I've had to move them once to get half the side of my car to work lol...sooooo...I got some new rcas at home and I'll throw them in for kicks....gotta get a new fuse tomorrow.....maybe that piece of metal didn't carry enough current to do anything at all..

I wanna cry about this amp though..I've had it for a year and now it's possibly blown...the rca side smells, not super bad but like it may be burnt could this be like the death of my amp...I didn't have the fuse to test it so like I said, that piece of metal is the key..if it didn't let current pass through that's good cause my amp may still actually work...I'll put that fuse in and watch it still not turn on at all..that would suck BAD

I will also check the ground...maybe the ground came off and it hit metal and made it short out the fuse...but I mean it's sparking so it's grounded...lol..

Being that its a older 2607 I dont think it will do its rated power. so I dont even think it will have enough current draw to pop a 250amp fuse at the front battery.

But you said you have a fuse at the amp too? what size fuse is that?

From what Im understanding is both fuses blew, the 250 by the front battery, and the fuse at the amp. If that amp was drawing that much current the fuses at the amp would of fried way before the fuse at the battery. The power wire would have to get pretty warm before the 250 would pop at the battery.

But its seeming that both popped at the same time, otherwise if one goes youll have no sub amp power and the 2nd fuse would not have a reason to blow.

This leads me to believe your power wire has a short in it.

Someplace between the front fuse and the rear fues your power wire is grounding out on something. The power wire will either of gotten to hot and started to burn off the rubber coating causing it to ground out and pop both fuses at once.

or

The power wire is pinched someplace causing the rubber coating around the wire to wear out and ground out. No idea how your power wire is ran front to back, but if you ran it through your firewall with no rubber grament protecting the wire from the sheet metal around the whole the wire could of wiggled around in the hole and the metal could of cut through the casing.

If you ran your powerwire through your door jam (i see lots of people do this, and when the door is open you see the power wire) if its ran like this you maybe pinching the wire in the door hinge or between two tight pieces of metal when the door opens and closes again wearing off the rubber coating on the wire.

Or if you are running the power wire under your car you could of ran it next to something that puts off heat such as an exhaust and it burned through the rubber coating grounding out the positive wire. Or maybe you got it running through the suspension and the pinching from the suspension moving wore out the rubber coating.

Fuses just dont blow for no reason. Something is wrong.

I would check your power wire 100% before putting in a new fuse, and starting a fire!

Your amp still maybe fine, but just getting no power because your power wire is grounding out. The fuses may have saved you from buying a new amp.

If your RCA cords are burned, replace them, dont even try to use them.

What size power wire are you running?

For 2000+ watts you should really have 0 gauge wiring for ground and positive. Anything less could heat up and burn off the wires protective coating and ground the wire out, blow fuses, and start fires!! Which sounds like your problem.

Opps I also want to add that since you said your rca cables are kinda burned or whatever, if they are ran next to your power wire it can cause noise, such as engine whine. You should re-route your rca cords (and all other signal cords) down the oppsite side of your car.

So if your powerwire is going front to back on the driver side, your rca cords should be going front to back on the passenger side, or vice versa.

Ok wait up, it's a good amp.....it does close to rated power I'm sure of it.....I ran it through the firewall, I will check...

the fuse at the front battery, well there is none...bad choice but what ever it's my car...

the fuse from the second battery, to my amp...is blown..the only fuse to speak of....

The rca is NOT burnt that I can tell, the rca ENTRANCE to the amp smells burnt, like I smell one side of the amp, nothing..the rca side seems like it has a slight burnt amp smell maybe..but that could jsut be normal from me abusing it a little...anyways...I got 1/0...I know what I'm doing

It's stinger 100% copper wire...I have the big 3 upgrade...I played an extremely loud song with the bass knob all the way up and my volume on the HU down at like 20...I hear a pop I guess I was driving..a smell came up at me and I thought my amp was done cause the bass knob wouldn't turn on along with the amp...soooo...I look back and freak out cause of the smell, then I see that my fuse is blown........the fuse is in a closed case...and it's waterproof...my amp is blown I believe..

I mean that the smell couldn't be the fuse...Something bad happened for the 250 to blow and my amp was done before the fuse blew.....my regular amp works fine so there shouldn't be a short at all

the rcas are on the opposite side...I am just stumped...wtf happened back there, did a wire touch something..I'm just confused...did the song cause too much power to throttle to it and just burn it up?

this sounds rigged, and makes me say why the rcas are by the power cords, your not to clear with what this means. what rcas are burnt up? lol

If all connections are made, and tightly secured there should be no way that a power wire would touch an exposed end of an rca cord.

this sounds rigged?...I'm sorry let me fill you in on the setup..the rcas are ran opposite, but my amps power needed to be on the opposite side of the car..it was an innocent mistake..therefore the wire cross from the left of the car to the right...the right has my power/remote and mys econd bat with some slightly exposed terminals at the pos and neg...the rca had come unstapled and was dangling..but I don't think it hit the power..if that was what fuxed it up that kind of power would have melted the rca wire a little...let me give you a paint picture to clarify this even though I'm pretty sure the amp was just crying cause of all the power I was making it put out and it just...gave in

Untitled2.jpg

it's a cheap amp, don't care if it blows up.....anyways......IT DIDN'T...yet the fuse blew in the line to my big one and the big one is fried..I think the big one blew, and drew a crapload of power to it and blew the 250 amp fuse......that is the mystery solver I think.........cause my little amp isn't fried or anything and it's a cheap sony so...not the best protection..
