Testing An Amp?

I'm about to get a Crossfire VR4000D... I won't have the electrical to support it yet, I'm not in a rush, just buying what I can when I can.

Is there any way to make sure it works and its not DOA?

Well, usually to make any amp work you hook it to a battery.

But I don't have the electrical to support it. Or you guys saying just wire it up and play it for a few seconds to see if everythings okay?

I have 'run' a 4000wrms amp off a computer power supply.

It's not going to draw any current just sitting there... just don't bump it. If you can hook it up and it doesn't smoke or go into protect it's probably all good.

And don't mind the big ass spark the first time you touch a power wire to it, that's just the caps charging. Touch it once, take the wire away, touch it again, it may still spark very slightly, if you touch it a third/4th/5th time and it's still doing big sparks then the power supply in it is rooted

Could I hook it to just a normal battery? it doesn't have to be a computer supply?

Ya, just hook it up to a normal batt and make sure it powers on. If you want to test further hook up an iPod to the headphone jack RCA things and put a DMM in the outputs to measure voltage.

I'm kinda thinking I should keave this amp.. $580 for 4000 @ 2 ohm sound like a good deal?

I just wish I had the electrical to set it up and use it. I wish I could go and buy a amp new when I'm ready.. thats why I was kinda leaning on a new one.
