So my question is, does anybody ever win in the SQ division, with a ported sub box ? I'm sure everyone will agree that a properly built, ported and tuned box will sound night and day better, than a poorly built one. And I think everyone will agree that a ported and tuned box has a "different" kind of sound, than a sealed box. But I often hear people say, as if its just a straight up, unarguable fact, that sealed boxes sound better, than ported boxes. Wouldn't that be somewhat of a personal opinion ? Also, can one achieve LOTS of very low frequency bass with a sealed box ? I'm thinking that might just require a larger box, lots of equalization, and maybe a lot more power ? Is this correct ? My reason for concern, is that I really am shooting for more of a SQ system, but not sure I want to go with a sealed enclosure, "especially" if that will cause me to lose a lot of my really low bass. I'm still even considering the idea of one sub sealed in a 1 cubic foot box, and the other ported and tuned to like 28hz in 3 cubes. Not sure if you saw this in my other post, but these guys say this will work great for an SQ setup.... 8.If your not interested in a killing people decibel level, and are more interested in awesome sound quality you can put the woofers in different size boxes. So for example say you have 4 cubic feet in total and 2 woofers, instead of putting each in a 2 cubic foot box, make one side 1 cubic foot and the other in a 3 cubic foot box, this will make the 1st woofer better play the high pitched bass from 60 to 200 hertz, the other will better play the superdeep 20 to 50 hertz bass. This will happen automatically without any additional equalizers, crossovers or filters from your amplifiers. Your total db level will go down, but your sound quality will go way up. Even better would be to port tune the 2nd larger box from 18 to 26 hertz for that vibration bass. In general you can make 1 side from 2 to 3 times bigger than the other. So for example say you have X cubic feet in total, then the small side is X divided by 4 = (X/4) cubic feet, then the rest of the box is for the other woofer. wildbeast15 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 i have a sealed and i get some REAL low bass.... so you should be fine... proof is in my sig lol... and my box is tiny..... it was made to fit in the back seat of a f150... but now sits in the back of a explorer in one of the spots (never had a 3rd row) it hits about the same as my kove with a 5.91 ft cu ft ported.... The set up your talking about would sound great in my Tahoe. Trade you my dog for it. He has one eye but that only makes for bad depth perception so hey so what if he is running into shit, look at it this way he is easy to sneak up ninja style on. (right side only)</div>
