You want ports firing to the rear for the highest SPL. What this does is better match the resistance of the air in the port to the resistance of the air in the cabin of the vehicle. Ports up works a little but not as good, and ports forward wouldnt work unless you can seal off the area behind the port with a wall so air cannot travel behind the port. Ports up works a little but not as good, and ports forward wouldnt work unless you can seal off the area behind the port with a wall so air cannot travel behind the port. basically the inside of the car is the enclosure still. by firing it back, it just makes the cargo door part of the port. so port back makes it more port to get to the ear, but the sound waves will be more together. up will muffle it a little because some sound waves are going to go away from the ear, and facing front will basically make it fastest to the ear, but still be muffled because of the space behind the box.. right? Ever hear the term, "port loading"? Thats basically what you are doing by firing the ports back. This is especially good in an SUV because of the low tuning frequency. tahoe is probably in the low to mid 40hz region for a peak. Forward firing ports are usually meant for mid 50hz to 80 hz tunings, so the tahoe wont support the design at all unless you want to burp at 60hz.
