Mosfets

well, im sure you've all seen me pissing and moaning about blowing my sub amp. It looks like the powersupply mosfets are the only thing wrong with the amp. I was on mouser.com looking up replacements, and can't decide on which ones to go with. The range in price seems to be 44 and change for all 16 mosfets, to 14 and change for all 16.

BTW, I would really like the ability to have them overnighted should you have a better place to buy from. I am trying ot get this thing fixed up by LNO saturday.

id get the higher voltage, higher amperage if possible

I see one is 55v, and the others are 60v

haha... so funny, now that you post that pic, I see your PA3000D blew the same FETs, my 16 are shot too, and the guy that was looking at it said the toroid coil was going, but that I don't see at all- Think dude just wanted more money from me

if you fix yours, let me know, and maybe I will fix mine too if your successful

You got it, sir. If this works, I will fix the other one, too...or if I mess this one up, I will have another one to take to a pro and have them fix it.

I'am no expert, but after reading the specs on the PDF on the STM FETs, they look like better, more reliable numbers, but why would they be the cheaper ones?

I dont have a clue. I leave that to you professionals. lol

well, unless someone says any reason I shouldn't get those STM mosfets, I am going to order them tomorrow, and have them overnighted to me. It should still be cheaper than the alternatives even with shipping

Do you have an o-scope?

I wouldn't bother trying to fix it if you don't. You can't tell if the drive for the power supply has gone bad on you and if it has the amp either won't run or it'll possibly blow all your FETs again.

Also the gate resistors may be bad. They're often fireproof and don't go visibly bad. You'll need to check the resistance of each one with the fets removed from the amp.

I hope you have a pretty epic soldering iron too. Anything less than about 80w won't be able to heat up the joints enough a. to remove the fets or b. to get a good joint when you put the new ones in.

If you're still keen I'll look at those fets and tell you which one I recommend.

Do you know the output section is all ok?
