Batteries Smoking..

I was playing my stereo tonight and I noticed an AWFUL smell. It smelled like rotten eggs. When I opened up the back, my batteries were fucking smoking and causing the smell.. I disconnected all the wires and set them outside of the car. They are hot as hell and I hope they aren't ruined. It looks like their is some sort of residue on the battery. They are dry cell Odyssey 2150 batteries. Anyone ever heard of this happening?

gawddamn that sounds bad. i'll be tuned in for sure. are those sealed bats or not? Got me worried my redtops might have an epic fail.

Sounds like one or more of you cells inside one or more of your batteries has shorted out?

I had that happen with a regular batt- but not a dry cell battery before.

I don't know. I don't think it could be my MLA module that caused it could it?

charging a battery at too high a voltage for too long could do that

whats your voltage set at?

if i remember correctly those batteries arent supposed to see over 14.8 for charging, right? or is that lead acid?

I believe the module is set at 15.2.. if thats the case then that could be bad =\

Same thing happend to a yellow top of mine. I just had tacobell that night and was ripping in the car and i thought it was just farts, but then i went back in the trunk and the battery was HOTT. I left it in a parking lot and gtfo.

I don't understand what would cause both batteries to go bad at the same time though..

oh and for the record, they were both still working when i unhooked them. but that residue and the smoke coming from them worries me

Is it possible that because they were charged with a dedicated alternator and MLA module for 2 weeks straight with only 400 watts max of draw that they were over charged?
