If your buying the amp new, I say DD.

American bass has a undisclosed flaw about their amps..

If you let them sit at a idle or turn your sub preamps off or have volume on zero your amp will get hot sometimes kicking protect or just going up in smoke.

Only amps Ive ran so far that ever done this.

Being that they are Zenon built I believe, I wonder if sundowns have this same flaw which is also zenon built??

I do all those almost daily, and never had those issues with my sundown

Depends on your electrical. The 500.1 will make close to 6000 watts on 16 volts. On a 12 volt system I would say the z1a. The z1a would prolly make a little more power on 12-14volts. Splitting hairs either way..both are very strong amps. DD no longer produces the z1a..I think it was replaced by the z2lv, I could be wrong though. 16 volts and up I would say the 500.1..just my 2 cents
