Ad Alternators

I have a question for you guys.

I'm thinking of building a bracket to bolt to my engine, so I can bolt 1-2 GM AD244 alternators.

I'm looking to dedicate the AD244(s) to my stereo, having a separate charging circuit for the batteries in the bed of my truck, when I get those.

I don't want to tie them into the stock charging circuit, I want to leave that alone.

One thing I don't understand.

This plug, does it need to be plugged in, for the alternator to function? What plugs in here exactly? I'm trying to make the AD244(s) "standalone"

I have found a 200 amp version, and I'm trying to do this on a budget. I'm thinking two 200 amp AD244s should be sufficent for how much power I'd run.

That is your regulator plug, it has to be plugged in to regulate charging. Get a factory plug for the alt. There should be a yellow wire on the plug. It needs to go to #87 on a relay. #85 on relay to ignition hot source, #86 on relay to ground, #30 on relay to second battery.

I was going to run it like you were but it is more efficient to run alternators parallel as well as the batteries. You are going to lose alot of extra power your factory alt has to give. Unless it is a 16V system run them parallel. But it will work the way you want it. if you are planning on run stereo with out the truck running alot, your alternator will not last long. it is made to keep the batt charged not charge it.

We can make you a module for a stand alone alt no problem. You would be better off running both alts @ 15v and getting the most from both alts. Light dimming would be minimal any how with 2 alts @ 15v if at all.
